What is a GI Pipe?

GI Pipes are steel pipes that have been coated with a layer of zinc to prevent rusting and corrosion. These pipes are highly durable and have excellent resistance to water and moisture, making them suitable for plumbing, irrigation, water supply, and structural applications. The galvanization process ensures that the pipes can withstand harsh environments and have a long service life.

Technical Specifications of GI Pipe:

Manufacturing Process of GI Pipe:

At S Nomi, we follow a precise and high-quality manufacturing process to ensure that every GI Pipe meets industry standards:
  • Raw Material Selection: We use premium-quality mild steel coils or strips as the raw material for manufacturing GI pipes.
  • Pipe Formation: The mild steel strip is passed through a series of rollers, gradually shaping it into a cylindrical form. The edges of the strip are welded together to create the basic steel pipe structure.
  • Galvanization Process: The pipes are dipped into a molten zinc bath in a process called hot-dip galvanization. This zinc coating helps protect the steel pipe from corrosion by forming a physical barrier and acting as a sacrificial layer, which corrodes first, protecting the steel underneath.
  • Cooling and Inspection: After the pipes are galvanized, they are cooled down in a controlled environment to solidify the zinc coating. Each pipe undergoes rigorous inspection and testing for uniformity of the coating, dimensions, and surface finish.
  • Finishing and Packaging: After inspection, the GI pipes are finished with threading or grooving, depending on the client’s requirements. The pipes are then packaged and prepared for transportation.

Applications of GI Pipe:

  • Water Supply Systems: Widely used in transporting water for residential, commercial, and industrial use.
  • Irrigation Systems: Ideal for agricultural and irrigation applications due to their corrosion resistance.
  • Plumbing: Commonly used in plumbing systems for drainage and water distribution.
  • Construction and Infrastructure: Used in structural applications such as scaffolding, fences, and guardrails.
  • Firefighting Systems: Utilized in fire protection systems due to their durability and resistance to fire and moisture.
